CMS Receives SAME Excellence in Construction Award

MAUMEE, OH – CMS Corporation (CMS) recently received the 2017 Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Kentuckiana Post Small Business Award for Excellence in Construction Services for its work on the $1.1M Advanced Metering Project, Phases V & VI, at the Indiana National Guard’s Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center (CAJMTC) in Edinburgh, IN and the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center (MUTC) in Butlerville, IN.

The award was made during a luncheon to open the SAME Kentuckiana Post Annual Small Business Workshop / USACE Louisville District Open House on 18 January 2017. SAME issued only three Small Business Awards – one each for Excellence in Environmental, A/E Services, and Construction Services – with CMS receiving the latter. This award recognizes a small business firm that has exhibited excellence in construction services over the past year via one specific project or a series of projects, projects that are public or private in nature, and projects that are either civil works or building projects.

This project was actually Phases V and VI in a 6-phase sustainable energy project performed by CMS dating back to 2012. Per the scope of the project, CMS installed a Utility Monitoring & Control System (UMCS) to meter and monitor gas, electric, and water usage throughout both locations. The UMCS incorporates life safety features (e.g., carbon monoxide and smoke detectors) and addresses building controls, such as temperature, humidity, lighting, and occupied/unoccupied status. Each of these areas can be monitored and controlled remotely by the installation energy manager. The project value for all six phases of work is $4.3M.

Ernest Enrique, CEO, noted, “To date, CMS has equipped nearly 200 buildings with advanced metering infrastructure, equipment, and controls at Camp Atterbury. We are proud to assist the Army in its efforts to achieve a high level of control and manageability of its energy usage at this installation.”

The SAME Kentuckiana Post luncheon was attended by well over 300 representatives of the military and the engineering, construction, and environmental industries.
