CMS Corporation

Construction

CMS was founded in 2004 as a mechanical fabrication and installation company and we continue to have strong self-performance capability in this area today. In the nearly 20 years we have been in business, we have expanded our business profile from a commercial/industrial-only company to a seasoned Department of Defense (DoD) and federal agency contractor working around the globe. We have also evolved from a mechanical-only contractor to a general contractor with experience in design-build and design-bid-build projects, new construction and repair/renovation projects, and vertical and horizontal/civil construction projects – ranging from the retro-commissioning of 78 facilities at Andersen AFB in Guam to the new construction of a $50M multi-site, multi-phase hangar complex at Naval Station Rota, Spain.

CMS corporate and staff experience includes work for the federal government and various industries within the commercial/industrial sector, as well as specialty design and construction projects, on a wide range of facility types, including but not limited to:

Energy & Sustainability

Energy Conservation

As one of our major service areas, CMS provides multi-faceted energy-related services for government and private industry clients. Energy conservation comes in many forms, addresses many purposes, and requires many different approaches and solutions. Our contracts to date have fulfilled a wide range of energy goals for various budgets and types of construction, including:

  • Designing/Installing state-of-the-art new energy-saving heating and cooling systems
  • Designing/Installing direct digital control (DDC) systems for remote monitoring and control; advanced meter reading systems (AMRS)
  • Designing/Installing ground heat-sourcing systems
  • Retro-fitting advanced metering infrastructure (AMI)
  • Retro-commissioning/Upgrading older existing systems
  • Sealing building envelopes – cracks, re-caulks, window/door joints
  • Thermal pipe and equipment dressings

These are just some of the many energy-saving approaches CMS has delivered to our customers to reduce energy usage and costs. We have the professionals, the partnerships, and the range of experience to deliver individual energy conservation packages to meet the unique demands of any building or project.

Sustainable Design & Construction

CMS recognizes the importance of sustainable design and construction to conserve energy through the use of solar, wind, and geothermal systems, and supports the advancement of earth-friendly technologies in construction. CMS corporate and staff experience in the construction of sustainable and renewable energy technologies supports the sustainable growth of communities and industries. Our technology partners enable us to develop effective customized solutions for our customers, such as:

  • Geothermal and ground source heating systems
  • High-efficiency natural gas engine-based heat pump water heaters
  • Natural gas- or biogas-based Combined Heat & Power (CHP) systems
  • Waste-to-energy systems, mobile or stationary landfill-based

CMS works with energy service companies (ESCOs) and on-site utility companies to identify any utility company or government rebates/incentives, as well as to find financing options that may be available to lower, if not eliminate, the capital expenditures required to develop these projects for our customers. By leveraging years of experience and in-house expertise, CMS’s energy systems customers realize attractive returns on investment (ROIs), lower energy costs, and lower greenhouse gas emissions.

USGBC LEED and DoD High-Performance Sustainable Building (HPSB) Requirements

CMS has developed a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) portfolio that includes LEED-certified projects within the continental US and the US territory of Guam. To date, we have successfully completed several LEED-certified projects, including LEED-NC (new construction) Silver and LEED-NC Gold-certified buildings. In addition, we have applied USGBC LEED construction standards to many of our other projects that have not been submitted to USGBC for certification, but which were designed by LEED Accredited Professionals (APs) using certifiable materials and environmental controls. Because of our LEED building knowledge, in-house LEED APs, and partnerships with LEED-accredited design firms, CMS is able to provide leadership and experience when LEED construction is required.

CMS has also successfully completed new construction and replacement projects under the Green Building Initiative (GBI) DoD Compliance Principles for New Construction and Comprehensive Replacement Program (DoD GPC NC) for DoD projects undergoing 3rd party certification for federal High Performance and Sustainable Building (HPSB) Guiding Principles. For example, our award-winning $35M USAF Hangar Conversion project at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH, was verified by the GBI as compliant with the Guiding Principles. Most recently, our project to renovate a communications building at Minot AFB, ND, received HPSB recognition.
