BARGERSVILLE, IN — The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Indiana/Kentucky recently awarded CMS Corporation (CMS) the 2016 Award of Excellence for the construction of a $16M ballistically-hardened structure to house generators at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, GA. CMS was recognized by ABC for excelling in “innovation, quality, communication, and safety” on this project.
The Award of Excellence honors the skill and creativity of the entire project team – contractor, owner, architect, and engineer – responsible for an outstanding merit shop construction project. CMS’s $16M Design/Bid/Build Waterfront Emergency Generators project received the Award of Excellence in the “Institutional $10M to $25M Division.” CMS constructed a 7,535-SF ballistically-hardened, climate-controlled emergency generator building to house and support two emergency backup generators, switchgear and control equipment, an overhead bridge crane, and external underground fuel storage, as well as utility and site improvements. Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay is the home port for US Navy Fleet ballistic missile nuclear submarines. This project is critical to the Base’s ability to provide reliable emergency backup power to the 24/7 operations at this high security locale.
The client cited the CMS project team for on-time project completion, despite government operations that frequently halted work. The CMS project team worked over 75,000 labor hours on this project with zero injuries or accidents.
Khush Mander, Executive Vice President, and Bill Beach, Vice President of Business Development, were on hand to accept the award at the ABC 2016 Merit Shop Awards Gala on September 29, 2015 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in downtown Indianapolis, IN.
