MAUMEE, OH – CMS Corporation (CMS) is closing out 2020 with two significant awards – one at Dover Air Force Base (AFB), DE, and the other at Buckley AFB, CO. At Dover AFB, CMS was awarded a $7.8M project to bury primary medium voltage overhead distribution lines located along the north half of Atlantic Street and the flight line. This project is Phase 5 of a 6-phase project to relocate overhead lines basewide. Once completed, the project will yield increased power capacity and reliability for the Base, as well as significant savings on maintenance costs associated with replacing weathered or damaged light poles, insulator maintenance, and line damage from ice storms.
At Buckley AFB, CMS received a $5.7M award to replace power plant controls at Building 433. Equipment, computer hardware and software for the Power Plant Control System (PPCS) at the facility is old and in need of replacement. Programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and generator controls are obsolete and no longer supported by manufacturers, making it impossible to find these replacement parts. CMS, teamed with local controls/systems integrator, Winn-Marion, will replace the generator controllers and PLCs making up the PPCS with new units, adding redundancy and additional functionality so the system can be more effectively monitored and controlled by power plant personnel.
Both projects were awarded under CMS’s existing prime indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contracts with the US Air Force – the Regional Engineering and Construction (RE&C) East Region and RE&C Central Region contracts, respectively. CMS CEO Ernest Enrique stated, “These two awards mark the end of a challenging, yet highly successful year for CMS. From the onset of the pandemic, our No. 1 goal has been to protect our team members, their families, and our clients against the spread of the virus, while continuing to provide a high level of service to our clients. Like others in the construction industry, we have faced many challenges over these past months, but together we have been largely successful in meeting this goal.”
CMS is currently performing work for our Department of Defense customers at military installations in the Pacific, Caribbean and across the United States.
