Maumee, OH – CMS Corporation (CMS) announced today it has been awarded a project to repair fuel tanks at Cannon Air Force Base (AFB), NM, and Ellsworth AFB, SD.  This $9M project was awarded under the AFICA Regional Engineering & Construction (RE&C) Central Region contract.

The scope of work at Ellsworth AFB includes the cleaning, repair, and return to service of Tanks 15 and 16 – both Jet A fuel storage tanks.  Tank 15 is 80’D x 38’6”H and can hold 31,000 BBL. Tank 16 is 93”D x 48”H with a 55,000-BBL capacity.  Ellsworth is home to the 28th Bomb Wing, operating two of the nation’s three B-1B combat squadrons.

Similarly, the scope of work at Cannon AFB includes cleaning, repair, and return to service of Tanks 394 and 395.  Tank 394 has a 10,000-BBL capacity and is 42’6”D x 40’H and Tank 395 has an 18,000-BBL capacity and is 60’D x 40’H.  Cannon falls under the Air Force Special Operations Command and plans and executes specialized and contingency operations using advanced aircraft, tactics, and air refueling techniques to infiltrate and resupply special operations forces (SOF). The Base also provides project intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, and close air support for SOF operations.

Each of the four tanks will be cleaned and then undergo various repairs, which may include external/interior coating repairs, tank containment repairs, roof replacement, replacement/repair of vents, nozzles, level alarms, stilling wells, seals, hatches, guardrails, ladders, stairways and platforms, piping, cables, etc. Some design of roofs, spiral stairways, etc. will be required. After repairs, each tank will undergo an out-of-service API 653 Inspection prior to return to service. No more than one tank will be taken out of service at a time per location.

We are pleased to continue work under the Air Force’s RE&C Contract, especially at such critical and distinguished bases,” stated CMS CEO and Chairman, Ernest Enrique. “We look forward to the continued growth of our fuels program, both in CONUS and OCONUS.”
