BARGERSVILLE, IN, March 5, 2016 — The Associated Builders and Contractors’ (ABC) National Chapter awarded CMS Corporation (CMS) the 2015 Eagle Award Excellence in Construction (EIC) for the NAVFAC Southeast project entitled, “Design-Build Repair Bachelor Quarters (BQ) 846” at Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, FL.
The ABC Eagle Award EIC is the construction industry’s premier annual awards program, honoring the nation’s most innovative and high quality construction projects and safety programs. The program determines the winners from across all ABC chapters and confers its highest recognition on the most outstanding merit shop projects of the year.
Awards were presented March 2, 2016 at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL. During the awards program, over 175 member companies were presented with awards for Excellence in Construction, Contractor of the Year, Safety, and Diversity. Prior to winning the National EIC Award, the $5.7M Design-Build Repair BQ 846 project also won the ABC Indiana/Kentucky Chapter’s Award of Excellence in its 2015 Merit Shop Construction Awards, category Other Specialty/Government Construction.
For this project, CMS renovated an existing bachelor housing complex consisting of eight 3-story wings and one 2-story wing (over 94,800 SF total). Work included repairing the exterior building envelope, replacing mechanical systems, applying new finishes, painting, upgrading bathrooms, and adding building security and key card access features. By recommending phases of work be performed concurrently, CMS was able to complete the project ahead of schedule.
CMS CEO Ernest Enrique stated, “This project received exceptional performance ratings from the Navy, which cited CMS’s expert ability to manage its subcontractors, scheduling expertise, and exceptional communication skills as key to completing the project ahead of schedule and with superb quality. What was anticipated to be a challenging project due to the age and use of the facility, as well as its size and magnitude, was, in the words of our customer, ‘executed with precision and foresight.'”
