Maumee, OH – CMS Corporation announced today the award of an $11.4 million contract under the NAVFAC Atlantic Naval Station Rota Multiple Award Construction Contract (Rota MACC) to upgrade facilities for P-8A operations at Lajes Air Force Base (AFB) in the Azores, Portugal. This design-build project will enhance critical infrastructure supporting the P-8A Poseidon, a modified 737 aircraft utilized by the US Air Force and Navy for multi-mission maritime operations, including intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (IRS) missions.
Work on this project will include the complete renovation of Building 705 and its associated support areas to meet the operational needs of aircraft functions. Additionally, a new automatic aircraft post-flight clear water rinse system facility will be installed to support the maintenance and operational readiness of the P-8A aircraft. Approximately 282 square meters of existing paved area will be repaired to provide a secure laydown space for outdoor storage and staging of equipment essential to P-8A operations at Lajes Field.
“The award of this project at Lajes AFB is a significant achievement for CMS,” said Ernest Enrique, Chairman and CEO of CMS Corporation. “These upgrades are crucial for optimizing the facilities that support P-8A Poseidon operations. Our team is proud to contribute to enhancing the effectiveness and readiness of this important mission, and we are committed to delivering exceptional results on this endeavor.”
