BLOOMINGTON, IN – The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Indiana/Kentucky recently awarded CMS with Awards of Excellence for two design-build projects constructed for the US military. The Design-Build Renovation of Building F-30070 at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio and the Design-Build New Construction of a Combat Communication Combat Support Facility and a Combat Communication Transmission System Facility at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam were recognized by ABC for excelling in “innovation, quality, communication, and safety.”
Secure storage facilities and sound-proof interiors were required for the $1.1 million Design-Build Renovation of Building F-30070. CMS transformed 9,400-sf of office space into a communications room, an evidence vault, secure space in compliance with ICD/ICS 703 Version 1.2, administrative offices, and functional common areas for personnel of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. The CMS team tackled unforeseen site conditions, such as asbestos and utility lines, with detailed situation surveys and cost-effective recommendations to the government. As a result, challenges were resolved in a timely manner and the project was completed ahead of schedule.
Designed and built to withstand salt air, high humidity and gale force winds, the 18,043-sf Combat Communication Combat Support Facility and the 9,812-sf Combat Communication Transmission Facility are two of the newest “green” buildings at Andersen Air Force Base. Constructed for $10.1 million, both buildings meet US Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver standards. The use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) helped the project team integrate aspects of the design and construction techniques with sustainable materials and equipment. Weather-resistant features included a fabric-reinforced fluid applied roof membrane, which was used to reduce the possibility of leaks during high winds or seismic events. The Support Facility and the Transmission Facility are the third and fourth LEED-certified buildings constructed by CMS on Guam as Guam Pacific International.
Ernest Enrique, PE, CEO of CMS, and other CMS executives will formally accept these awards at the upcoming ABC 2014 Merit Shop Awards Gala on September 25 in Indianapolis, IN.
