CMS is making repairs to two earth-covered “cut-and-cover” fuel storage tanks located at DLA-Energy, Okinawa, Japan. The smaller tank is 20,000 barrels (840,000 US gallons), while the larger tank is 100,000 barrels (4,200,000 US gallons). Both in-service tanks contain JP-8 jet fuel. CMS is making repairs to one tank at a time. Work includes emptying and cleaning the tanks, repairing the vault area, replacing corroded conduit and conduit supports, replacing tank appurtenances, lead-based paint (LBP) abatement, and recoating the entire tank interior using a 3-part epoxy paint system.
