CMS Mechanical was awarded a contract to provide and install a diesel fuel system as part of the new Central Utilities Plant supporting IU Health’s $4.5B hospital in downtown Indianapolis. Work included installation of three 50,000-gallon underground diesel fuel storage tanks, eight 250-gallon day tanks, four duplex pump sets, two fuel polishing skids, a leak detection system, concrete pads, and extensive underground and aboveground fuel piping from ground level to eight hot water boilers, three steam boilers, and eight emergency generators.
CMS Mechanical’s experienced team fabricated and welded an extensive array of piping systems and custom skids at its facility in Bargersville, IN, and transported them to the site for installation. A key challenge involved safely offloading and placing the large tanks in a busy urban environment, requiring specialized crane equipment with sufficient reach and capacity.
