Value: $60.2M USD / ¥8,666,796,243

Highlights

  • Demolition of three 10,000-BBL aboveground tanks, containments and associated piping
  • New construction of 72,000-BBL aboveground fuel tank with containment and modern transfer systems
  • Full utility and site infrastructure upgrades

CMS K.K., in a joint venture with Obayashi, is executing a MILCON project to demolish existing fuel tanks and construct a new aboveground jet fuel storage tank at MCAS Iwakuni. The scope of work includes construction of a new tank containment and installing new transfer piping, valves, manifolds, and related appurtenances to connect the new tank to the existing pump house.

The team will demolish three aging 10,000-barrel (BBL) aboveground fuel tanks, along with their secondary containment systems and associated piping and equipment. We will then field construct a new 72,000-BBL (or 3,024,000-gallon) aboveground jet fuel tank at the location of the demolished tanks. To ensure structural integrity, the project will incorporate deep soil mixing and/or pile-type foundations to improve the site’s soil bearing capacity. Comprehensive civil, mechanical, and electrical utility work will be completed, including automatic tank gauging, electrical service, lighting, communications, cathodic protection, and fire protection systems. Site improvements, such as drainage, access roads, sidewalks, gates, and landscaping, will also be provided.

This design-bid-build project is the first of four phases of work planned for this location.
